Stop buffers are used as end stops, e.g. for conveyor trolleys. They absorb a large part of the kinetic energy effective on impact. In doing so, they have a damping effect, prevent strong vibrations leading to damage and minimise rebound. Last but not least, they also have a noise damping effect. Due to their parabolic shape, these impact buffers have a progressive spring characteristic: the damping of impacts is initially softer.
