When using DIN 319 form L and M ball studs, the thread on the shank is not required. They are driven on by lightly tapping with a soft-face hammer; the end of the shank should be slightly rounded or chamfered (30°). The clamping sleeve must be inserted into the hole before installing the L-shaped ball knobs. It is also important to ensure that the knob is positioned vertically or driven parallel to the axis when it is driven on. Otherwise there is a risk of the ball knob breaking. Ball knobs shape M are a very inexpensive design.
